The tripod is heavy and doesn't provide the smooth and fluent movement expected from a fluid drag system. Requires constant adjustments when needed for 180 degree panning, difficult to keep level. For simple tasks a simpler system would do just as well. Can't rely on this system for high end events. If you own a high grade camera, I do not recommend this camera. It will become your systems weakest link.

I tried the Ravelli AVT Video Camera Tripod with Fluid Drag Head for weeks to do what you said. i used a .48 lb video camera. the vertical panning would not work well no matter what i did. I used my 15 dollar tripod at the beach sand today and it panned smoother vertically than this product. my camera could pan smoother on a nail head than this.

Terrible tripod for video Mar 25, 2010
This tripod is not smooth enough for video pan or tilt. It sticks and jerks very badly.
I took it all apart and changed the sticky silicone grease to white grease, sanded some of the rough parts smooth and I improved it greatly, but it is still junk as far as video goes.
Another thing FLUID HEAD? NO WAY! There is not a drop of fluid in the head.
I agree with the other reviewer that it would be fine for a still camera.

Poor Quality Tripod Mar 22, 2010
I don't understand all of the positive reviews this has gotten. Mine sticks when tilting, and the pan is ok but has rough spots. The tilting is unacceptable and I need to replace it. Cheetah Mounts has not responded to my emails. DON'T PURCHASE
