4Great Product  Jan 01, 2009
785SHB was the perfect choice for me.The prices was good and above all its Manfrotto!. I love its compactness, though its not rated for a DSLR but its rock solid with my DSLR.Its light weight and fits into my backpack. For someone who is in search for a tripod for their small DSLR this is a value for money.

5fantastic  Dec 28, 2008
I have a DLSR and like the others was wanting a tripod that could come along with me on treks. The only other tripod I had was the old fashioned big one that didn't have the quick release feature and was HUGE. Two things that immediately attracted me to this model-1. the quick release plate WITHOUT magnetism. I love this feature. You can leave the plate on your camera and it snaps into place when you need to use the tripod. I didn't like the idea of putting a magnet so close to the camera which is what so many other models rely on. I've also heard that the cameras can fall off with those magnets. The plate is very easy to use and works great with a DLSR. 2. I love the various angles the tri-legs can assume. It can be flat to the ground, out wide, or sort of "skinny". This is nice because sometimes you need a tripod, but don't want to be a pain to others around you who would also like to share your space. With this third tri-leg angle, you don't take up quite so much room. A definite plus.
I had to do some research on this model through the Manfrotto webisite to be sure it worked with a camera of my weight. While it's only rated up to 2.2 lbs. according to their website, it seems to work fine with the DSLR (I don't have any of those extrememly long lenses though either-which add a lot of weight). It also comes with the quick release plate (you can buy extras for other cameras too).

5Ideal for travel & hiking  Nov 02, 2008
Compared to my Manfrotto tripod this thing wieghs practically nothing! I'm planning on getting this myself (I used my employers), though I will continue to use my sturdier tripod when convienient.

I've only used this tripod for a very light video camera and my full-sized spotting scope. It worked well for both uses though you should expect some tremor with even just light winds. This tripod's best selling point is that it's lightweight, compact and travels easily. Perfect for hiking and international travel.

5Great Tripod for Home Videos  Sep 30, 2008
With all things I buy, I always read the customer reviews. To those people that put a giant camera on this tripod it might not work well. That is not this tripods intended use. I mostly looked at the box stores for tripods and was never happy with what was offered for a selection. I am really pleased with this unit!

I have a small Sony palmcorder (Sony DCR-SR65). Really light and small. This tripod is amazing for kids football, baseball, softball. I have used it on bleachers, and on the ground while I stood and once while seated in a chair. My camcorder has a 25X zoom and this holds it rock steady when zoomed in.

The bubble level is a great addition on this unit. When setting up the legs, I adjust them so the bubble is level. Then when I pan side to side the framed image is still nice and level.

The Legs are sturdy enough for me even when fully extended. One issue might be that this tripod is so light you can move the whole unit easily. Which I did one time, after that I kept downward pressure when I was moving the head.

The ball head is great for the moving action of sporting events. However it turns out that bleachers move LOTS! It turns in left/right and up/down in the camcorder mode. The trigger release/lock on the handle becomes intuitive after you have used this unit a few times. My camcorder is so light I barely have to tighten the trigger.

One issue I came across already is that and sand/grit in the ball head is very detrimental to the movement of the head. Once the sand got in there, I fully released the trigger and moved the handle all around. I think the sand worked it's way into the groove on the ball of the head. I later cleaned the groove with a q-tip, issue resolved.

I recommend that you buy this one.

Excellent tripod. Pretty compact when folded. Extremely quick setup which is a huge plus when you travel.
