5Best non-linear editor around!  Dec 15, 2008
Before reviewing, for those who may not know, there are two types of video editors: linear and non-linear.

Linear editors require you to edit each clip as it will appear in the video, in order. You cannot edit the middle of the video without "fixing" everything from that point to the end of the video.

A non-linear editor allows you to place "clips" anywhere and move them around without having to re-edit everything that follows a piece. This is far superior to the linear editing software I have used.

Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 is a non-linear editor. It allows for multiple tracks of audio and video. In addition, you can separate the audio/video portions of a clip and use either individually, if desired.

Experiment BEFORE attempting to make your first video project. This will help you become familiar with the software while allowing you to see what the many features available are.

You MUST have a computer that can support the software in order to not have issues with rendering, burning, and other aspects of editing and burning videos to DVD.

There is a large learning curve if you are not familiar with the software. Highly recommend the Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 Classroom in a Book as a companion to this software. After a few chapters you will be able to edit your videos with minimal effort.

In addition, adding text titles and text messages in your video is a simple process.

Just read the hardware requirements to ensure your system meets this in order to be able to properly utilize the software.

The program is expensive, but it is well worth the money with the capabilities it has. This is not software for the casual movie editor unless you have lots of funds available.

5Fantastic  Jun 01, 2007
I like the chap below do not understand the bad reviews. Until I get my new machine on Monday I have been using my laptop which is fairly good spec, but by no means incredibly fast and Premeire runs quickly and reliably.

Exporting videos (5 minute video) takes 4-5 minutes, I can edit quickly in realtime with no problems at all.

When I get my new machine I am sure it will run even better. Well done Adobe.

People with problems worth making sure all the settings / codecs are correct, both of which could cause performance problems.

Adobe Premiere is far from the most advanced non-linear video editing package you can get however let me make this one comment.

- Editing is all about cutting and not fancy effects. The strength of the project is what is in front of and behind the camera not fancy effects.

I would never recommend using any of the effects on any of the non-linear video editing packages anyway. Get dedicated effects packages if you really want to do your special effects well.

In short Adobe Premiere is the BEST cutting software and the EASIEST to use. The learning curve is slightly steep but you will be cutting your footage within a day or two with this one.

An editor cuts and arranges media. Adobe Premiere does that perfectly. I recommend this like no other for the price but if you are looking for pro packages then go elsewhere and be prepared to pay five figures with extra hardware. If you want special FX this has some but no pro uses these effects tool. Premiere is a first class cutting tool. Go to Discreet products for FX.

5Warning: Steep Requirements!  Jan 15, 2007
Even though you own a fairly recent computer, if you don't have 64bit processing and at least 2.5 gig of memory in your computer, Premiere cannot be used to its greatest extent. Also be sure to have plenty of hard disk space available for virtual ram (100 gig or more)-If you don't, Premiere will crash.

I used to have numerous problems with Adobe programs but after upgrading hardware, it seems to me that their programs have very steep requirements. What do you expect from HD?

Don't read the box requirements. If you are serious about video editing, you need to invest in a better machine that can handle Premiere Pro 2.0 otherwise, just stick with ulead.

5Adobe Premiere Pro  Jan 11, 2007
There are a few minor changes that I'm not completely sure about that were applied to the system that have taken some time to adjust to, but it is still a terrific program that is powerful and able to do everything I need it to be able to do.
